Save the Earth Testrun
((OOC: Human responses will come from
talk_like_a for icon purposes!))
[A]
[You're minding your own business, probably in a park, when a cat comes bounding by intent on some prey. A stray, maybe? But she's an awfully pretty one...
Well, it probably doesn't matter, right?]
Stop wiggling!
[--Wait. Did that cat just talk?]
[B]

[There's a young girl staring at the street with interest as the various cars pass by. But despite being at a crosswalk, she hasn't actually hit the button.
Instead, she darts out into the traffic, causing an uproar of horns and squealing tires. If your character is fast enough, they might be able to catch her before she gets hurt...!]
[C]

[You were probably in the middle of explaining something on the network when this girl chimes in, looking puzzled.]
What's a _____?
[It doesn't even have to be a particularly difficult or complicated word. Rather, it seems this girl isn't all that familiar with certain basic human concepts...]

Mimi no! Bad! Stop chewing on that!
[Because snakes are gross and oh gosh she did not just hear her cat talking that's totally her studying way too hard it must be.]
no subject
But I wanna kill it.
no subject
When in doubt, default to child speak.]
But that's not very nice. Think about if that snake was chasing you and wanted to kill you? Would you like that very much?
[Also it's gross and slimy and augh please don't Mimi.]
no subject
[Said without a single doubt in her mind.]

But I would be very scared for you, Mimi! I wouldn't like to see you get hurt, and I would be afraid you would.
[Is she seriously having this conversation right now? With a cat? In the park?]
I'm very proud of you, but I don't like you going after things that can hurt you. Come on, let's go home and we can talk about this.
[And about why you're talking. Because seriously what.]
no subject
If we go home, does that mean I can have food?
no subject
Yes, you can have food.
no subject
[And with that, she begins happily trotting in the direction of home, the snake completely forgotten.
For now, at least.]
no subject
Okay, with the walk back, she's had a moment to decompress. Her cat was talking. That was different. She didn't remember echoing anything back, so this probably had nothing to do with her. But her cat was talking. So did that mean...
Walking into the kitchen, she puts a can of wet food under the automatic can opener, still thinking. She hadn't heard of any animals getting powers, yet. Staring off into space, thinking hard, the can continued to spin, even after the lid had been cut away.]
no subject
She goes up on her hind legs, pressing her paws against Elly's legs - though at least she's got her claws very carefully tucked away.]
The food's still spinning!
[Do something about it, Elly!]
no subject
Absently, Elly scratched the kitten's head, completely tuning out the kitten's plight and the hum of the can opener. She was focused now. If Mimi was talking, did that mean that there were other things going on? Where would she even look this sort of question up?]
no subject
Although the scratching is nice, it's not food, which means she'll be ducking away from Elly's hand and jumping right up onto the counter.]
Elly!
[FOOD. NOW.]
no subject
Sorry!
no subject
With Mimi's attention successfully diverted, Elly is free to sort her thoughts without distraction!]
no subject
Mimi, when did you learn how to start talking like a person? Do you remember?
no subject
You were petting me and you called me pretty. I really liked that!
no subject
[Yeah, that sounded like an echo all right. Oh boy.]
no subject
[...She's definitely not shy about it, it seems.]
no subject
And you just figured out how to speak from that? How?
no subject
...I don't know.
no subject
Okay, um. When I said you were pretty and you figured out how to talk, how did you feel? Did you maybe think of something when that happened?
[How to explain echos to a cat.]
